The
Filipino American Library is sponsoring a showing of Fil Am artists for
the entire month at the Eagle Rock Community Cultural Center. Artists
featured in the exhibit include Papo de Asis, Bill Bon, Nelson Castillo,
Mark Justiniani, Rafael Maniago, Joy Mallari, Danny Piedra, Tony Reta,
Ching Reyes, Lynda Reyes, Mat Relox, Rudy Samonte, Christina Miguel Mullen,
and Jesse Santos. The collection will be curated by Zen Lopez (zlopez@aol.com).
The opening for the show will be on Tuesday, July 9, from 6 to 8 p.m.
Meet the artists, enjoy the live entertainment, and partake of delicious
refreshments.

LECTURE ON PHILIPPINE ART On Saturday, July 13, from 1 to 3 p.m., the
Filipino American Library presents Pearlie Baluyut in "A Filipino Painter
in Paris," a slide lecture on Philippine art at the Eagle Rock Community
Cultural Center. Come learn about a valuable and often overlooked subject
of Philippine cultural history. Baluyut received her M.A. in Art History
at UCLA where she is currently pursuing her Ph.D. in Modern Art. In 1998
she co-curated a centennial photograph exhibition and co-edited its companion
catalogue entitled Confrontations, Crossings, and Convergence: Photographs
of the Philippines and the United States, 1898-1998. From 1999-2000, Baluyut
conducted research in the Philippines as a U.S. Fulbright Scholar and
is currently a Ford Foundation
Fellow.
